The Diocese of Ogdensburg is currently accepting applications for food assistance grants which will be awarded to food programs operated by Catholic parishes or organization. During the winter of 2009 and again one year ago, the diocese made grants to a number of parishes and ecumenical or community food programs to help them with the purchase of food. In each case the grant amounts approached a total of $20,000 While applications may be submitted on behalf of parish or ecumenical or community food programs, they must be completed by a pastor of a Catholic parish of the Diocese of Ogdensburg. Applications for Food Assistance 2012 are available on the Pastoral Documentation Site of the diocese. Bishop LaValley said, “We are all well aware that poverty impacts the lives of many North Country residents year after year. In addition, the economic turmoil of recent years has left other neighbors of ours out of work or underemployed. I take particular satisfaction knowing that we, the Church of the Diocese of Ogdensburg, will collaborate once again in this Food Assistance Grant program. “While the amount we will distribute is indeed modest in light of the need around us, this distribution will be once more a concrete sign of the care of the Church for our neighbors in need and a very specific step on our part to help them,” the bishop said. |
