By Colleen Miner Diocesan director, respect life ministry This spring marks the fifth year of the 40 Days for Life campaign in Plattsburgh. Nancy Belzile, 40 Days for Life Campaign director, said “I would like to thank all of those who have supported 40 Days for Life in praying and fasting for an end of abortion in our beautiful North Country. If you are reading this message perhaps God has placed it on your heart to pray and fast for the end of abortion. I encourage those of you who have come in the past to keep coming, we are making headway! I invite those who have thought of coming in past but haven't made it yet, don't delay, join us this year! I especially invite those who are new to the campaign to join us in prayer, we welcome you!” The spring campaign begins Feb. 22 (Ash Wednesday) at 10 a.m. and continues throughout Lent, concluding with a Jericho Walk on April 1 at 1p.m. The Mid-Point Candlelight Service is set for March 11 at 6:30p.m. “While prayers are needed each day (7a.m.-7p.m.), either on site or from your home, extra prayers are asked on Thursdays which is the day the center has surgical abortions, Belzile said. “Plattsburgh’s Planned Parenthood is the only Planned Parenthood in the diocese to have surgical abortions - almost 500 a year. “ Sign up for daily prayer at the 40 Days for Life website. www.40DaysforLife.com/plattsburgh. There is also a daily prayer which can be read each day in solidarity with all the 40 Days for Life locations. Those interested are encouraged to sign up. If a parish, class, youth group, RCIA group or other church group and would like to sponsor one specific hour each week, please inform coordinator, Nancy Belzile at nancys_56@hotmail.com or 518-593-6024. “Whether alone or with a group, your peaceful presence and prayer at the vigil site makes a difference,” Belzile said. “God hears all prayer, especially those of our children. We welcome the children to come to pray. Children are a powerful presence, they are a beautiful witness to life.” |
