The event starts at 7 p.m.at St. Augustine’s Church. Oriented in folk, the music of Towne Meeting branches out into many other genres, from Americana to acoustic rock, and even sometimes flirts with country. Although some members of the band have played together for many years, the current group formed in 2006.Towne Meeting is Dennis Hulbert, vocals and guitar; Miles Moody, vocals and guitar; Gary VanCour, vocals, guitar, ukulele, and percussion; Rich Sutphen, vocals, guitar, and mandolin; and John Kains, vocals and bass. According to Gary VanCour, “three of us were heavily influenced by the folk era of the 1960s, so we like to play some of the old standards of that time along with more recent tunes.” He went on to say, “Towne is an old New England name that is part of the family lineage. Every year there would be a Towne family reunion, which usually wound up with guitars and sing-alongs. It seemed appropriate to name the band Towne Meeting as it symbolizes folks coming together and having a good time.” Admission is by donation and all proceeds will be used to support the recent ecological project for the people of Nicaragua.
