Pope Francis lifts a chalice at his Sept. 25, 2015 Mass at Madison Square Garden in New York City that will be used again, exactly one year later, at the closing liturgy of the Diocese of Ogdensburg’s INSPIRE:Called to Love summit in Lake Placid. Silversmith Adrian Pallarols of Buenos Aires, Argentina, a personal friend of Pope Francis, crafted the chalice. Through a mutual friend, Father Garry Giroux, pastor in Brasher Falls and chair of the planning committee for INSPIRE: Called to Love, had the opportunity to meet Pallarols who agreed to bring the chalice to Lake Placid for display and use in the Mass. Pallarols also shared information about INSPIRE with Pope Francis during his recent visit to Rome resulting in the papal blessing for the day. Pictured above with the pope is Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York.
