Father Andrew R. Mulvaney Year for Priests Page

Father MulvaneyDate of ordination:May 25, 1968
Current assignment: Pastor, St Paul's, Black River and St.Rita's, Deferiet

1.) What's your favorite prayer?
Not counting the rosary type prayers, The
Prayer to St. Michael, the Archangel, and of course
there is my own "God, You got me in this mess,
now do something about it.”

2.) Favorite saint?
There are two right up there: St. Anthony and St. Jude

3.) A holy moment in your priesthood:
It was a six month experience with the United
Nations in the former Yugoslavia. The experience
of so many young, young soldiers from nations all
over the world who had the same dreams, hopes,
and desires...
The most pointed moment was when Jean-Luc, a
member of the French foreign Legion, said to me "I
had to come to this place of war to have someone
tell me "I am good.’”

4.) Something you've learned from your brother priests (or a particular priest):
I learned from one at the offset - to always be
available for everyone at any time and place, and
that is everyone without exception. I hope I do not
have to say who the priest was since it was a backward
learning.

5.) Favorite part of being a priest:
That is easy: "This is My Body This is My Blood"
There is nothing greater a priest can do.

6.) Advice for young people considering a vocation
Start by being humble.
Bishop Sheen wrote a book entitled "The priest
is not his own." You must care enough to bring
God's presence and sacraments to everyone for
you are his instrument, and he will make it work,
if you do not get in His way.
We try too hard to do everything and then wonder
why we have so much to do or why it is not
working.
It is simple - we got in God's way.

7.) Something about you that few people would know:
This is a tough one because most people know
very little about me. One can read into this what
they want: when you have served with the United
Nation for three months you receive the UN
Medal. When the Russian Army received theirs,
the announcement was worded "Commander of
the Hospital, commander of US troops, and Father
Mulvaney."
I am good with the youth in international relations,
even though I speak only English.

8.) Favorite temporal (nonchurchy) things:
I read World War II and Cold War novels.. and I
walk.
